Move the lines
2016

Faced with colonial oppression and religious conservatism of his time, Abou El Kacem Chebbi (a famous Tunisian poet) wrote "When the people want to live, fate must then obey". Adopted by most nationalist movements and later on used as a slogan during the Arab spring, these words continue today to resound with a particular intensity.

In "Move the lines" each word of this sentence is embroidered in its original language on anonymous hands. Placed alongside each other, regardless of gender or race, they carry the timeless message of all those who still fight for a better world.
