Purification
2010
The « Purification » series deals with the limits of the sacred when it comes to human life. The symbolism of blood is based on the ambivalence of the images that we associate with it. In sacrificial rituals, blood is shed in a gesture of reconciliation with the sacred. In its factitious reality, it ends up to kill a living being to honor a supreme being.
The issue addressed in "Purification" would never have occurred to be asked if there was no racial ethnic or religious purifications, darkening our history. Here, I revisit the ritual of expiation pushing the symbolism of the blood to its limits (purity/impurity, life and death). In my defending body, I oppose the murderous ideologies and beliefs to the sanctity of human life.
